Let’s Talk Tequila!

With the release of our newest spirit, it's time to talk about tequila, agave spirits, and the art of making America's favorite liquor – and yes, tequila sales have indeed surpassed all other spirit types for the first time in American history. You can read more about that here

Tequila is a distilled spirit made from blue Weber agave, primarily grown in the Jalisco state of Mexico. To be classified as tequila, it has to be made in Mexico within a limited geography. Additionally, the word “Tequila” is an appellation of origin/trademark of Mexico. Any product made from agave outside of a limited region of Mexico or from other varieties of agave is referred to as an agave spirit — hence why our spirit, made locally in our Florida distillery, is named as such.

Our first Grayton Beach Agave Spirit is considered a blanco, or un-aged spirit, and has been popular in our 30A Distilling Co tasting room for several months. Blanco agave spirits are popular for margaritas and other cocktails due to its delicious flavor, you can find notes of lemon, orange blossom, and pineapple in ours, and it ends with a long, warm, cantaloupe finish.

While Blanco tequila is bottled shortly after distillation, our newest release, reposado, translates to 'rested.' Reposado is placed in oak barrels to age for anywhere between two months to a year. Anything aged after that gets into the Anejo classification, and then after three years of aging, an extra Anejo is born. The longer the spirit ages in oak, the darker in color it gets — and the more “whiskey-like” it becomes. The aging process also tends to create a smoother tequila.

Reposado tends to have a smooth flavor and notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel. Because Reposado is so well balanced, it's easily enjoyable neat or over ice but is also versatile in cocktails.

Our Reposado will officially release on May 7, 2023, at our one-year tasting room anniversary party, which will surely make a splash in our agave spirit lineup.

We will offer two exclusive cocktails at the reposado release to highlight our agave spirits. We recommend a classic margarita for our blanco, and we made a complex craft cocktail to highlight our reposado, featuring lemon shrub, burnt honey, lemon simple syrup, and hops bitters.
